Record Breaking Visitor Numbers

07 April 2011

For the first time in Coventry Transport’s Museum’s history, the world famous attraction has recorded annual visitor numbers of over 400,000 for 2010.

The Museum, which houses the largest collection of British Road Transport in the World, has been working very hard on breaking the 400,000 figure during the last 12 months.

Visitors from around the UK and much further afield are now talking to the museum directly through social networking via Facebook and Twitter which is motivating them to come to Coventry.

The Museum has enjoyed consistent media coverage throughout the year from newspapers, radio and television – the latest being BBC 1’s ‘Panorama’ programme on Monday 4th April. This milestone is the direct result of various family and children’s activities organised by the museum, a rolling programme of stimulating and exciting temporary exhibitions which have included, in the last 12 months, Transport for Disabled People, Ice Cream Dream Machines, The Ladybird Big Book of Motorcars and of course the 70th Anniversary Commemoration of the Coventry Blitz in November 2010.

For the start of 2011, the Museum unveiled a stunning exhibition of Le Mans Racing cars entitled ‘Le Mans through the Ages’ with a competition running in parallel with the exhibition to win Le Mans tickets for this year’s motor race event, courtesy of Peugeot UK.

Many of these visitors have also enjoyed the Museum’s excellent conference facilities which in itself has resulted in a record number of bookings.

Gary Hall, Chief Executive said:
“Since I joined the Museum in 2007, it has been a major objective to drive our visitor figures through the 400,000 barrier. We have a world class collection of British Road Transport right here in Coventry and through our consistently high levels of promotion, communication and presentation; a huge audience is now enjoying the Coventry Transport Museum experience.”
