The Rover Safety Cycle was created in Coventry by John Kemp Starley in 1885.

When it was first built it was very different to any other cycle that had been built before, yet it looks like the cycles we ride today. It is quite similar in the construction of the frame and also has a chain which drives the rear wheel. From this point onwards, all cycle makers made cycles based on this design because it became so popular with riders.

In 1886 the price of this cycle was £20/15/- (£20.75).
