World-class collection in a World-class museum

Ferguson TE20

Name: Ferguson TE20
Make: Massey Ferguson
Year: 1956

This is the 500,000th TE20 to be built at the Banner Lane factory, Coventry.
It has a four-cylinder Standard Motor Company 20c diesel engine.  Harry Ferguson had resisted using diesel engines in his tractors as he felt it made the machines noisy and crude.  But the diesel engine was more powerful and more economical, so the company fitted them to their tractors from 1951.

By 1956 the TE20 range was becoming outdated and too small for the needs of many farmers.  So, by the time this machine was made, Massey Ferguson had begun to develop larger more powerful tractors.
This tractor has been kindly loaned to the Museum by AGCo Limited, Massey Ferguson’s parent company.
