Rare motorbike restored to former glory

The team at Coventry Transport Museum came to the rescue of a restoration project of a Hazlewood motorcycle, of which there are only 7 known surviving examples. The bike had not been taxed since 1935 and had been left in a barn for 80 years.

The restorer, Jonathan Anstiss (pictured here with Chief Executive of Culture Coventry, Gary Hall, and the museum's Hazlewood) was able to measure and borrow motorcycle parts so they could be copied and used as templates for new ones.

The process has taken a year which has included local company The Aluminium Service Company, based in Warwick, casting the new parts which were presented to Jonathan on Monday. The restoration is now compete as these items were the last pieces required to complete the bike to its original condition.

Jonathan was very grateful for the help received and made a donation to the collection's care fund.
