Innovative session inspires teachers

24 November 2016

A recent CPD (Continual Professional Development) event held at Coventry Transport Museum offered teachers a chance to consider new approaches to design and technology in the classroom as well as a chance to be creative in the museum itself. The event was led by artist Jasleen Kaur whose 'Bodge Poetry’ is a means of generating bizarre but everyday problems to be solved, sparking invention and hands-on object making.

The event went well with plenty of opportunity for discussion as well as time spent in the galleries taking inspiration from the vehicles to generate vocabulary. These words then formed the basis for inventions which the teachers made from everyday materials.

Everyone enjoyed the session with attendees commenting how useful it was to chat about curriculum and design, meet new people and get new ideas. In particular the group were inspired by linking literacy and creative design and technology. The results of the session will help the Learning team at the museum develop an inventing workshop for school groups.

The event was in partnership with the V&A and funded by the DFE through the Arts Council England as part of the Museums and Schools programme. Activity sponsored by Brose. The museum received great feedback from the teachers attending the event:

"Thank you for a fab, fun session  - a great way to end the day!"
"Fantastic! Thank you"
