New visitor wheelchair fleet thanks to Coventry Leofric Lions
14 November 2016
Coventry Leofric Lions have once again granted another generous donation to Culture Coventry, helping to provide new wheelchairs for visitors. A fleet of 5 brand new chairs for Coventry Transport Museum, The Herbert Art Gallery & Museum and the Lunt Roman Fort have replaced wheelchairs that were nearly 10 years old and had been used extensively by visitors. Helping to ensure their sites are accessible to all, the wheelchairs are a welcome refresh to their facilities, making sure their visitors get the best experience.
The funding was given by the Coventry Leofric Lions, who work all year to raise money for worthy causes in Coventry & Warwickshire. This is the second funding grant to Culture Coventry from the Leofric Lions in two years. Previously overhead boom microphones were donated for Herbert Media in 2015, which are are used on a daily basis by the award winning Herbert Media Team in their regular vocational training classes for young people.
The President of Leofric Lions is Peter Davies, who attended the presentation at the Transport Museum, is delighted to help with such universally used equipment.
Mr Davies said, "Coventry Leofric Lions exist to serve our local community, we are delighted to be able to donate funds toward the purchase of wheelchairs for visitors to use… We are always well supported by the people of Coventry and we hope that this like the many other local causes we support will be a useful and enduring service to a fabulous part of Coventry history."
Gary Hall, Chief Executive of Culture Coventry said, “We are thrilled that the Lions have worked so hard to raise this money to be able to provide our visitors with these fantastic new wheelchairs, thanks to the Coventry Leofric Lions. As an organisation we are committed to access for all, and these new wheelchairs will ensure that we can provide the best service for the varying needs of our diverse communities.”
The Leofric Lions annual fundraiser, the Donkey Derby will be held in the War Memorial Park on the first Saturday in September 2017 celebrating their 60th Anniversary.
