Happy Birthday "Classy Lady"!

30 September 2014

Monday 29th September was a red letter day for Dr. Cynthia Powell from Monmouth in South Wales.

It was the 50th birthday of her beloved Singer Gazelle motorcar, which she affectionately calls Classy Lady. Cynthia had owned the car since 1964, when it rolled off the production line in Coventry 50 years ago, and in 2003 Cynthia gave Classy Lady to be part of our world class collection at the Transport Museum.

Every year since 2003, Cynthia has sent her car a birthday card with a donation of £1 for every year of classy Lady's life, pretty much how you would receive a birthday cash gift in your own birthday cards.

On Monday, we were presented with a cheque for £50 from Cynthia to the museum's ongoing work with the collection.

Accompanying Cynthia on her return visit to CTM was her good friend and neighbour, Paul who has never been to the Museum and was very impressed!

Happy Birthday to Classy Lady for Monday last, and if you've had a birthday this week, we hope you had a super day!
