Pupils Design Vehicles of the Future

A group of students from Foxford School have been working with Coventry Transport Museum since January 2014, to design public transport for the future. The design project was developed through a partnership between ourselves and the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum along with the V&A in London, through the Museums and Schools Programme which is funded by the Department of Education through Arts Council England.

The Year 10 Design and Technology students visited Coventry Transport Museum for inspiration and to research their ideas for the revolutionary vehicles. They then went to the V&A Museum in London where they worked on developing their ideas with Heatherwick Studios who designed the Olympic Cauldron for the 2012 British Olympics, and who specialise in architecture, transport and object designs. The pupils also worked with Coventry University and Jaguar Land Rover, who introduced professional design practice and real-world design processes.

The ‘Transport 3D – Designing the Future’ exhibition showcases the student’s final designs and is on display at the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum from Thursday 8 May to Sunday 18 May 2014.
