Much Wenlock Civic Delegation pays a visit

With the Olympics in full swing, the Museum hosted a Civic Dignitary visit from the home of the modern Olympics...Much Wenlock in Shropshire.

In the 1870's a Dr. William Penny-Brookes started his own version of the now modern Olympics based on the games of ancient Greece, and after a visit to Much Wenlock by the President of the International Olympic Committee - Baron Pierre de Coubertin, the modern Olympic Games were born.

Both the Museum and the Lord Mayor of Coventry were delighted to host the visit on Monday 30th July which was led by the Mayor of Much Wenlock - Cllr. Tim Pinches.

They were fascinated and inspired by our Pedals to Medals exhibition which tells the story of competition cycling and features some very cool racing bikes...just like Bradley Wiggins bikes! The group of 20 also enjoyed a tour of our world famous transport collection and experienced a ThrustSSC simulator ride.
