Object Of The Fortnight - advertising poster

Friday 25th May 2012 marks 50 years since the new Coventry Cathedral was consecrated by Queen Elizabeth II. As such, we thought it fitting that this fortnight's Object of the Fortnight should be related to this remarkable building.

We've chosen a large poster that was recently donated to us by the London Transport Museum, which was printed in the 1960s to encourage tourists from the USA and Canada to visit the new Coventry Cathedral. The main image used on the poster is an artist's impression of the Cathedral, painted in 1957 by Sir Basil Spence, the architect of this iconic building.

The poster tells potential visitors that they can "easily reach Coventry by British Railways. For information consult Principal Travel Agents or British Railways Offices in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Toronto or Vancouver."

We'd love to hear from anyone who took up the opportunity to visit Coventry from across the pond back in the 1960s - especially if any of you decided to stay here!
