Congratulations to Esquires Coffee Shop Owner

Big congratulations to Steven Prime, owner of the Esquires Coffee House situated within the Museum, on completing a 3000 mile charity bike ride across America in just 32 days!
During their trip, Steven and his friend Dayle Walker have endured thunderstorms, temperatures of 49C heat, punctures, desert conditions and the sheer physical pain of cycling 7 to 8 hours a day for over a month; all in the name of charity.
To date, Steven and Dayle have raised over £2,500 towards a £10k target for Coffee Kids: an organisation which supports coffee-farming families to improve their lives and livelihoods that Steven has supported through his business for some time. Whilst crossing 11 states of America, the proud pair also managed to squeeze in a visit to the Coffee Kids headquarters in Albuquerque to meet the team who deliver the life-changing projects funded by people like Dayle and Steven.
Commenting on his visit to Coffee Kids offices, Steven said:
“Meeting the team reminded us once again of exactly what made this challenge so rewarding. It was great to see the kind of projects we’d be contributing to in coffee growing communities in Central and South America and we left feeling mentally and physically refreshed and revitalised for our final leg of the tour.”
Steven added:
“Throughout the trip there were so many highlights it’s hard to pinpoint my favourites. I remember being in Texas and battling with a constant and unrelenting wind. For the whole day we struggled to hit more than 12mph and after two hours we had to stop for a rest and popped into a café to get our all-important coffee. In times like this is was tough but the even then experience itself was so rewarding that I would do it again and again.”
“The toughest day though had to be cycling in 49C/120F. I had never experienced that temperature before, let alone cycle through it. We went through the desert in Arizona & California; south of an area called Death Valley. There was a point where I ran out of water and didn’t know where the support car was! Fortunately, an American stopped by the side of the road to check that I was ok and gave me some water. I have been amazed at the support we have received from the locals during our efforts.”
