Coventry Blitz Commemoration Weekend

Over the weekend of 13th and 14th November, the City of Coventry and indeed Coventry Transport Museum remembered the events of the Coventry Blitz of November 14th 1940.

On Saturday 13th November 2010 - 70 years on from the Blitz, we had our busiest Saturday day for two years with nearly 5,000 visitors enjoying all of the amazing historical and hands on activities which were available right through the day. We had around 30 historical vehicles from 1935 to 1942 on Millennium Place including a Fire Engine Re-enactment group recreating proceedures from 1940. They had a helping hand from an 'on duty' fire crew to fill up their 500 gallon water tub, a picture of them with the 2010 fire crew is on our Flickr site.

Our Blitz Experience gallery which features a bombed out street, a factory and offices, an unexploded bomb was packed all day. Visitors were treated to dancing displays from Strictly Jitterbugs, live music from the 13th Coventry Scout Band through the afternoon. Children went home with their gas mask boxes which they had made themselves and lots of great memories of a day that took them back to 1940!

We have made a special photo album of all of Saturday's wonderful activities for you to view, including our fabulous Blitz Ball which enthralled 170 dinner dancers who were entertained by the world famous John Miller Orchestra as well as raising over £230 for the Poppy Appeal.
