No Shortage Of Activities For Children In Coventry And Warwickshire During This Month’s Half-Term

There will be no shortage of activities for children in Coventry and Warwickshire during this month’s half-term holiday despite Covid-19 restrictions.
Culture Coventry, the charity that manages the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum, Coventry Transport Museum and the Lunt Roman Fort, has planned a range of activities for all the family.
They include everything from Halloween themed activities at the Herbert and board games that the Romans would have played on rainy days at the Lunt Fort through to putting children’s imaginations to the test as they try their hand at engineering at Coventry Transport Museum.
All activities are being operated in a Covid-19 secure way and need to be booked in advance.
Ruark Jon-Stevens, Marketing & Communications Manager of Culture Coventry, said: “We are really looking forward to welcoming families to our sites this holiday and have got lots of exciting and educational activities to look forward to.
“We have worked hard to create a programme of activities that are safe, secure and great fun too.”
At the Herbert, Festival of the Dead activities begin on October 24 with the making of sugar skull luminaries. They conclude on October 30 with the creation of spooky masks and other decorations – inspired by the Mexican festival Dia de Los Muertos which many children will recognise from animated films such as The Book of Life and Coco.
Children will also be able to hunt for one of the world’s most elusive book characters as a Where’s Wally Spooky Museum Search is taking place at the Herbert. This free activity runs from October 9 through to November 1.
The Lunt Roman Fort will explore how Roman soldiers would have passed the time on a rainy day, including board games they would have played. Sessions are taking place on October 26, October 28 and October 30 and will be the last chance to visit the fort in 2020.

Coventry Transport Museum will be tapping into children’s engineering and creative skills from October 24 to October 31. They will be able to make their own Oobleck – which has the properties of both a liquid and a solid – as well as having a go at creating their own whacky wonder out of everyday items.
In addition, visiting families can enjoy Engineer Trails play sessions and Mini Museum Engineer Play Boxes to stir their creative energy and imagination for free.
For those who want to get into the Christmas mood early, Herbert Art Gallery & Museum is taking bookings for their Early Years Celebrations on December 8 and December 15 which will include the telling of The Night Before Christmas and some festive nursery rhymes – as well as a visit from Santa.
