The Vintage Sleigh Opens!

Families who are supported by a charity in Coventry were given a magical sneak peek of a popular festive attraction.
Children from Shine a Light Support Service got to take the first Vintage Sleigh Ride of 2019 and meet Santa at Coventry Transport Museum’s new winter wonderland.
The ride – which has been a famous festive feature in Coventry since its days in the former Co-Op store – has been run from the museum in recent years.
And this year’s attraction has got even more to offer – with a new walk-through experience where families can play games, take photos and enjoy activities, which officially opens on Monday, December 2 at 11am.
Shine a Light, which was founded in September 2016 by Sam Schoolar, a childhood cancer survivor, works to support families across Coventry and Warwickshire affected by cancer with home visits, counselling, coffee and activity sessions and day trips.
Sam said: “We were thrilled to have the privilege of taking some of our families to Coventry Transport Museum to help launch the Vintage Sleigh Ride.
“We took along 11 children and they had a fantastic, fun and festive morning. It got all of us in the Christmas spirit.
“This was a lovely opportunity to give them a real lift and a wonderful, memorable experience. It was a real treat and meant so much to everyone.”
Joy Corcec, Communications Officer of Culture Coventry, the charity which runs Coventry Transport Museum, said: “The Vintage Sleigh Ride is extremely popular with families in Coventry and Warwickshire – so many people remember riding it as kids and are now bringing the next generation of visitors.
“It was lovely to be able to invite Shine a Light along and the feedback we had from the families was fantastic. It was a really special morning for all of us.”
Tickets will cost £8 per child which includes a gift from Santa and entry for two accompanying adults for each child with additional adults added for £1.50.
