Coventry Transport Museum makes the perfect learning environment for school visits.

Old Grammar School Memories

As part of our redevelopment, the medieval grammar school next to the museum has been restored and made open to the public.

We knew that the local community felt strongly about the neglect and inaccessibility of such a historical landmark so we set out to find out why people cared so much. We visited care homes, libraries and community venues to encourage people to share their views and we recorded anyone with memories of using the building after the Second World War.

We learned a lot about the jumble sales, jumble sales and more jumble sales that took place at the Old Grammar School before it was closed permanently to the public in the 1980s! The information we collected helped to inform the permanent display that will go inside the building.
