Transport Museum donates 200 Christmas books to Coventry hospital
19 December 2024
One year after teaming up with a popular local author to create a special book for its Vintage Sleigh Ride, Coventry Transport Museum has donated 200 copies to University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) NHS Trust.
The books, titled Help! Santa’s Sleigh Has Broken, a Coventry-themed festive tale penned by Aaron Ashmore, will be distributed to children visiting the hospital during the Christmas period.
Marta Amado, Duty Manager at Coventry Transport Museum, organised the donation. She said: "We’re delighted to share these books with UHCW. We hope they bring some joy to children and their families during their hospital visits.
“The books have proven very popular with families who visited our Vintage Sleigh last year, and as we had some left over, it felt right to make a donation which will hopefully bring plenty of festive cheer.”
Jo O’Sullivan, Charity Director at UHCW, said: “This donation will make such a difference. It’s a lovely gesture, and we know the children will really enjoy the books.”
Aaron Ashmore said: “It’s great to be working with UHCW Charity and Coventry Transport Museum again this year. While many young people will be enjoying the sleigh ride at the Transport Museum this Christmas, there will also be those who aren’t able to so it’s nice to see that we can still share a Christmas story with them.”
Help! Santa’s Sleigh Has Broken was gifted to children riding the Museum’s Vintage Sleigh Ride, which has been a part of the festive fabric of a Coventry Christmas since the 1950s.
For this year’s gift, Aaron penned a sequel, Help! Santa is a Robot, which, like its predecessor, is proving a hit with families.
