Adopt an Object scheme goes live at Transport Museum
11 December 2024
Coventry Transport Museum is giving visitors a unique opportunity to support its work by adopting an item from its transport collection.
The museum, home to the largest collection of British road transport in the world, features record-breaking vehicles, pioneering bicycles, and luxurious cars spanning Coventry’s rich history.
Now, with the venue’s Adopt an Object initiative, you have the opportunity to adopt some of the most famous vehicles and transport items connected to Coventry.
From the Thrust SSC, the world’s fastest land vehicle, to Queen Mary’s Royal Limousine, there’s something to captivate every enthusiast.
Adoptions are available at Gold (£100), Silver (£50), and Bronze (£25) levels, making it an accessible way for individuals to contribute.
As part of their adoption, supporters will receive a digital certificate, a photo of their chosen object, and more. Funds raised will help CV Life (Culture Coventry Trust) continue preserving and showcasing the city’s rich transport heritage.
Head of Collections Taniah Simpson said: "This is a fantastic way for people to feel connected to Coventry’s incredible transport legacy. Every adoption helps continue the work of the charity to enable it to continue to care for its treasured objects and share their stories with future generations."
Objects available for adoption include:
Thrust SSC (1997, Gold): The current land speed record holder and the first vehicle to officially break the sound barrier.
Lady Diana’s Austin Mini Metro (1980, Silver): A “Supermini” famously driven by Prince Charles.
Rover Bicycle (1910, Bronze): A pioneering design that became the blueprint for modern bicycles.
Daimler Fleetline Bus (1973, Silver): Used during Coventry City’s 1987 FA Cup victory parade.
To adopt an object, visit the on-site gift shop or welcome desk. Your support will play a vital role in preserving Coventry’s world-class transport collection.
