Drive curiosity, creativity and innovative thinking with a vast variety of resources linked to our Coventry Transport Museum collection that encourage a playful exploration of STEM concepts. 

Our PlayHEM sessions can be set up to suit your particular needs, with sessions and resources being adaptable to all ages, abilities and environments. There are several themes to choose from and combine to further suit your interests, and we can arrange to visit your setting on a regular basis so your group can enjoy multiple experiences with our Learning Team. 

Themes:

Loose parts play:
In this session, a mix of big stuff such as crates, tyres, pipes and den building materials as well as small playthings that incorporate dress-up, small world play and transport related objects will prompt a playful exploration of everyday STEM concepts.  

Engineering:
This session explores what engineering is and where we encounter engineers in our everyday life by providing resources and prompts including model making material to investigate real life issues such as inclusive transport. 

Tool skills:
This session provides prompts and guidance to develop an understanding of how and when tools are used safely. Take apart everyday items or create something new with tools such as pliers, screwdrivers, hand-drills, hammers and more.

Electronic Circuits:
Using electronic devices every day, this session offers activities that encourages participants to get stuck into the basics of circuits. Take electronic items apart, make a simple pipe cleaner light circuit or build bigger with light up construction sets. 
 

Who are we working with:

So far, we have been happily playing at community festivals, community settings and holiday clubs where a PlayHEM session can last an hour or a whole day.*  

We would love to offer PlayHEM in schools for a playful lunch time or after school provision and work with other community groups (Scouts, Beavers, Home Ed groups etc).

Prices:

*The cost of the sessions are based on your location and the length of the session within the midlands. A guide price per session includes the provision of the resources, staff time and travel costs. The maximum cost can be seen below with a final figure to be discussed on a case by case basis:
