TAXI Soon to depart

07 May 2019

A free exhibition in Coventry celebrating taxis through the ages will soon depart from the Transport Museum.

‘TAXI: The Story from A to B’ has been running at the Coventry Transport Museum since January and will close on Sunday, May 12.

The exhibition, which was curated by Patrick Murphy, features a range of taxis, many of which have links to Coventry, from the earliest carriage through to LEVC’s zero emissions electric taxi, and the TX eCity.

‘TAXI’ includes a host of vehicles from around the world, including Japan and New York. A rickshaw, 1910 Humber Taxi and a 1930s Austin High Lot also feature alongside the Bersey Electric Cab, which was built in Coventry in 1897.

The museum has been charting visitors’ stories about the impact taxis have made on their lives.

Ruark Jon-Stevens, Marketing and Communications Manager of Culture Coventry, said: “Taxi: The Story from A to B has been particularly popular, as it gives visitor a chance to reflect on the history of the taxi and their personal connections with it.

“Over the course of the past three months the exhibition has caught the interest of many visitors, and especially those who worked in the taxi trade. Both drivers and taxi engineers have visited the exhibition and recorded their tales.

“We’ve heard some great stories and have seen a real pride and passion in the city’s links to this trusty vehicle. We urge people to make the most of the final weeks of the exhibition and come along to share their own stories.”
