Coventry Transport Museum makes the perfect learning environment for school or family visits.

Past Project - Meet the Workers

Meet the Workers is an intergenerational oral history and media project that has recorded the stories of people who moved to Coventry to work in the transport industry. Media students from Barr’s Hill School developed their interviewing and filming skills through a series of workshops and visited local groups, including Irish and Asian organisations, to find interviewees. They recorded oral history interviews with bus conductors, track workers, factory electricians, vehicle designers and others from a range of Coventry-based companies. Using the material collected, the students made a short film as part of their media coursework that was screened during a special event at the official re-launch of the museum.

The audio material collected was then edited by a group of young people with learning difficulties and disabilities who were trained by Herbert Media. This formed some of the content for the oral history activity stations in the museum exhibitions, telling the stories of Coventry transport workers over the decades.
